How we test & rate AI tools
Maintained by the CreatorStack editorial team · Updated October 2026
We review AI tools the way a working creator would judge them: does this save time, does it improve the final video, and is it worth the money? Here's exactly how we evaluate the 104 tools in our directory.
What we look at
- Output quality. How good is the result you can actually ship — not the demo reel, the real output on everyday projects.
- Ease of use. How quickly a creator with no technical background can get a usable result.
- Value for money. What you get on the entry plan, and whether the free tier is genuinely useful.
- Fit for creators. We weigh features that matter for YouTube, Shorts, podcasts, and social — not enterprise checkboxes.
How the score works
Each tool gets an overall rating out of 5, plus a breakdown across ease of use, features, value, and output quality. Ratings are our editorial judgement, informed by hands-on use and how the tool performs for its intended job. We update them as tools ship new features or change pricing.
How we stay honest
- Affiliate commissions never change a rating or ranking. See our affiliate disclosure.
- We list a tool's weaknesses, not just its strengths.
- Pricing and features change fast — we always point you to the vendor's site to confirm current details before you buy.
Found something wrong?
If a price, feature, or rating looks out of date, tell us and we'll fix it. The directory is only useful if it's accurate.
